PURPOSE: To obtain a second harmonic generating composite by using a temp. gradient melting zone having a distinct temp. gradient between the hot and cold regions and regulating the temp. of the hot region to below the b.p. of a solvent and the temp. of the cold region to a temp. at which a guest compd. can be crystallized with a host material or below. CONSTITUTION: A film of a composite consisting of a guest compd. and a host material and contg. host molecules in an irregular state is passed through a temp. gradient melting zone having a distinct temp. gradient between the hot and cold regions. Since the temp. T2 of the hot region is the m.p. of the guest compd. or above but is practically within a region in which the host material is elastic and the temp. T1 of the cold region is practically below the m.p. of the guest compd., the guest compd. can be crystallized. The guest crystals in the host material are arranged by passing through the zone (from T2 to T1 ) and a second harmonic generating composite is obtd.
