The proximity sensor has a permanent magnet on a first element movable w.r.t. the proximity position, and a magnetic field sensitive sensor detecting the proximity position attainment. The sensor (22) is spaced from the proximity position, to which it is coupled by a soft magnetic link (19). Pref. the link is in the form of a strip, wire, or a rod. It may be partly parallel to the motion sense of the permanent magnet (18). The sensor may be fitted at an edge region of a second element (11-13), spaced from the proximity position, the link passing through the second element, in which it is sealingly fitted. USE/ADVANTAGE - Compact machine components in heavy duty conditions, with reasonable protection and without sensitive components.
