Underwater fibre-optics cable coupling - accommodates various pressure conditions separately so they are not interrupted or transmitted

(A) in a sleeve cou;ing for an underwater fibre-optics cable (3) with a clamp (4-6) for the cable reinforcement at the cable insertion regions and with a support (13) for the slack of optical fibres (14) passing through a pressure resistant inner tube (7) of the cable (3), the novelty is that (a) a pressure resistant inner sleeve (1) is located coaxially within a pressure-equalising outer sleeve (2) and consists of two end closure parts (12) and a pref. longitudinally split sleeve tube (24), the inner sleeve (1) receiving the cable inner tube (7) in a pressure-tight manner; (b) the support (13) is located within th sleeve tube (24), the interior of which is filled with a cable filler material (23), pref. ''AH-4' sealant; (c) the inner sleeve (1) is sealed with a shrink-fit inner lining (17); (d) the outer sleeve (2) has two end closure parts (5) with conical clamps (4-6) for the cable reinforcement (27); (e) the cable inner tube (7) passes, without interruption in the outer sleeve (2), into the inner sleeve (1); (f) a rigid elastic sleeve tube (9), which covers the entire inner sleeve (9), is supported on the end closure parts (5) of the outer sleeve (2) and is pref. enclosed by a sealing tape (10) which pref. consists of butyl and which lies below a shrink-fit outer sheath (11) sealing the outer sleeve (2); and (g) the interior of the outer sleeve (2) is filled with a sealant (8) which is pref. a two-component material based on polyol and polyisocyanate components. (B) A method of joining underwater fibre-optics cables using the sleeve coupling is also claimed. ADVANTAGE - The design accommodates the various pressure conditions separately so that these pressure conditions, even in the coupling, are not interrupted or transmitted.
