PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst carrier having a good function by coating a base material with a fine-powder metal, inserting the half-dried material into a framework to form the material, drying and then calcining the formed material in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A highly elastic resin such as urethane rubber and nylon or a deformable member is used as the base material 4, and a slurry 5 of a metal fine powder and an adhesive is applied on the base material. The plastically deformable half-dried base material is inserted into a framework 6 and dried until the adhesion is secured. The formed material 10 is then calcined in a nonoxidizing atmosphere of gaseous N2, gaseous H2, etc. The catalyst carrier base material is finally mounted in a halved outer jacket, and the halves are welded and integrated. As a result, the catalyst is allowed to get very close to an engine in an exhaust pipeline, and the catalytic reaction, engine efficiency, etc., are improved. |
