PURPOSE:To prevent occurrence of a busy shift as engine brake is ensured by using a shift pattern having a high speed stage at which engine brake is effective when an overdrive switch is turned OFF. CONSTITUTION:When an overdrive switch is turned OFF, from the beginning, it is prevented from occurring that a speed stage at which engine brake is ineffective though the speed stage is used during relatively high speed running regardless of the condition of a throttle opening, i.e. a condition of whether engine brake is needed or not is selected. As a result, for example, a case in which, even when the overdrive switch is turned OFF, engine brake is ineffective during high speed running is prevented from occurring, and beside a trouble in which frequency shift occurs due to operation of an accelerator can be prevented from occurring. Furthermore, in this invention, during overdrive running, engine brake is effective without fail. |
