A process for producing a polycyanoaryl ether powder which comprises reacting dihalogenobenzonitrile, dihydric phenol and alkali metal salt in the presence of a polymerization solvent, and distilling the solvent while applying shearing force to the reaction mixture is disclosed. According to the process, a polycyanoaryl ether powder which is excellent in physical properties and useful as the materials for electronic appliances, electric appliances, and parts of machines can be produced efficiently.
