<p>A coating composition according to the present invention employs a hydrolytic silan compound (organoalkoxysilane) as a binder in order to increase the effective surface area of a coating with the use of ultrafine granular materials, so that the antimicrobial efficacy afforded by the catalytic action of metal ions of an antimicrobial metal, e.g silver, copper, and zinc. Also, during the development of the coating, the antimicrobial metal ions which are in solution state in the composition, are adsorbed and secured to not only a filler but also a hydrolizate of the silan compound acting as the binder, ensuring improvements in the antimicrobial and deodorant properties. Antimicrobial deodorants prepared by coating granular materials with the compositions which are then heated at a low temperature for a short time for curing, are excellent in the antimicrobial and deodorant properties and also, exhibits the higher resistance to water, hot water, acids, organic chemicals, climate, and wear.</p> |
