Novel silicon containing alpha -cyanoacrylates represented by the general formula I <CHEM> wherein R<1> is an alkylene group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and R<2>, R<3> and R<4> are each an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms may be prepared by dehydrococondensing a cyanoacetate of the general formula II and formaldenyde or paraformaldehyde <CHEM> The silicon containing alpha -cyanoacrylates obtained are useful as adhesives.
