PURPOSE:To prepare the title insulator capable of effectively preventing the occurrence of water tree, esp. bow tie tree, in the insulator by subjecting a compsn. comprising a PE (co)polymer and a specified amt. of a specific substd. amide to a cross-linking treatment. CONSTITUTION:The title insulator is prepd. by subjecting a compsn. comprising 100 pts.wt. PE or ethylenic copolymer or mixture thereof and 0.01-3.0 pts.wt. substd. amide having at least 30 carbon atoms (e.g. N-stearylstearamide) to a cross-linking treatment. The insulator thus obtd., when used for insulating an electric cable, etc., can effectively prevent the occurrence of water tree, esp. bow tie tree, even if defects, such as voids, contaminants, and mismatching of the insulator with a semiconductive layer at their interface, exist in the insulator. The amide may be replaced by an equal amt. of a montanic acid amide or 30C or higher fatty acid bisamide to obtain a similar effect. |
