A system (100) for lancing sludge deposits from within a bundle of vertically extending steam generator tubes of a PWR steam generator secondary side assembly has a flexible lance (130) mounted in a lance guide/housing transporter (102). A flexible cable (138) and a fiber optics cable (140) run along lower and upper passages in a plastic extrusion forming the body of the lance (130). The flexible cable (138) is movable in the body of the lance (130) to operate to sludge sampler (142). Inspecting optics (144) are connected to the fiber optics cable (140) for viewing the interior of the steam generator. Sprockets (120) engage sprocket holes (128) in the body of the lance (130) through openings in a curved end (133) of a lance guide (110) attached to a blow-down pipe riding cart (106). <IMAGE>
