摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain an electrostrictive effect element without any cutouts or cracks at an edge part of an insulating layer by making the width of an insulating layer to be wider than that of an external electrode and to in a smaller range than the side surface width. CONSTITUTION:An insulating layer 3 consisting of a glass is formed on an internal electrode 2 which is exposed on a front surface of a block 9 by the cataphoresis method using a tentative electrode 6 which is formed on left and right surfaces of the block 9 for every one layer. Then, when a masking material 12 is eliminated, the block 9 where the insulating layer 3 is formed discontinuously can be obtained. Then, a conductive paste such as silver is coated to enable the internal electrode 2 where end face is exposed at every other layer to be connected electrically, thus forming an external electrode 4. Then, the block 9 is cutting-machined in chip shape so that one external electrode 4 corresponds to one chip so that the insulating layer 3 may not be cut by the cutting machining machine using a metal wire, thus obtaining an electrostrictive effect element. In the electrostrictive effect element, the insulating layer 3 is formed so that the width of the insulating layer 3 is wider than the external electrode 4 and is smaller than the width dimensions of the side surface.
