PURPOSE:To obtain the optical waveguide array having rigidity by forming a waveguide part in the part on the surface of a base material where the surface activity is high, forming a clad part of a material having a low refractive index and providing a reinforcing material on the top surface of the clad part and the bottom surface of the base material. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the base material 1 is heated by a gas burner, etc., via a mask 2 to oxidize the surface and to activate the parts of the through-holes not covered with the mask 2, i.e. the parts corresponding to desired waveguide patterns. A resin having a high refractive index and having light transparent characteristic is applied on the base material having the different surface activity to form the waveguide parts 4. Further, the surface is covered with the light transparent material having the refractive index lower than the refractive index of the waveguide parts 4 to form the clad part 5. The reinforcing material 6 is provided by sticking this material by an adhesive, etc., to the bottom surface of the base material 1 and the top surface of the clad part 5. The optical waveguide array having the rigidity is constituted in this way. |
