<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as a weatherresistance improving agent, etc., by the dehydrative esterification reaction of an alpha,beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or its anhydride with an aryl alcohol in the presence of an inorganic phosphorus compound or boron compound as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An alpha,beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid aryl ester is produced by the dehydrative esterification reaction of an alpha,beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or its anhydride with an aryl alcohol in the presence of a catalyst consisting of an inorganic phosphorus compound (especially preferably phosphorus pentoxide, etc.) and a boron compound [especially preferably B(OH)3, B2O3, etc.]. The amount of the inorganic phosphorus compound is preferably 10-50wt.% based on the alpha,beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid and that of the boron compound is 5-25wt.% based on the inorganic phosphorus compound. The objective ester can be produced in high yield at a low cost by this process. The product is useful as a plasticizer, an adhesive, a weather-resistance improving agent, etc.</p> |
