ELECTROSPECTRAL QUANTITATIVE ANALYSER

PURPOSE: To analyze a sample quickly and accurately with minimum operation by controlling the illumination wavelength selectively through an opaque disc having a plurality of holes in the circumference having central axis separated by a predetermined radius from the axis of the disc. CONSTITUTION: Light from a light source 22 is directed toward an array 28 of a solid state photodetector through the transparent side wall of a hopper 12. A filter/chopper assembly 30 comprises an opaque disc 32 coupled with the output shaft 34 of a drive motor. A plurality of wedge type filter elements 38 are shifted in order to block light energy entering through a grain sample into a continuous circumferential array on the periphery of the disc 32. The filter 38 intersects the light energy from the light source 22 entering through a sample (grain 16) contained in the hopper 12 into the detector array 28. Consequently, infrared energy transmits the detector array 28 through the grain 16 at a short wavelength previously selected depending on the optical characteristics of the filter element.
