Process and device for obtaining, as desired, a flame on a water jet. Said device comprises a tube (3) for injecting a combustible gas introduced in the nozzle of the water jet (6) and a gas-ignition system (4) located externally to the jet (6) at its base. The ignition of the gas at the base of the jet produces a flame which propagates along the jet to the dispersion area, whereupon it ignites the gas released by the water, combustion being maintained so long as gas is injected. The device is designed in particular for water jets and ornamental or show fountains.
