A driving member for the end of the spring wire, a rotary mandrel, and a feed drive are included in the machine. The rotary mandrel (7) is clamped between two slide carriages (34,) w.r.t each other, but moving together along the machine bed (1) at the side during the feed stroke of the coil. The rotary drive (10) for a follower (9) is on one slide carriage (3), while the mandrel turns in bearings in the other one (4) and has a conical end (8), by which it is centred in the follower.
