(A) Test device for the detection of a component (analyte) in a liq. specimen, comprising a carrier layer, a microporous polymer layer and optimal further layers, reagents further detection of the analyte being incorporated in one or more of the layers, in which (1) the microporous polymer layer is a membrane, produced by the coagulation process, with asymmetric pore structure such that they become narrower towards the side to which the specimen is applied, and (2) the carrier layer is macroscopically smooth and impermeable to the liq. specimen. (B) Analytical method for the detection of a component in a liq. specimen, in which the specimen is brought into contact with a test device as defined above in such a way that it enters the membrane through the side on which the pores are narrowest and the detection reaction follows this.
