An insulating layer (I) comprises a naturally-occuring silt-calcareous Mg-marl (II), one or more calcareous industrial waste prods. and chemically- and physically-effective components contg.: 23.6-45.9 (wt.%) CaO; 2.4-15.1 MgO; 1.2-5.3 Al2O3; 0.4-2.52 K2O; 0.04-0.44 Na2O; 0.3-2.7 SO3; 6.4-16.5 SiO2; 0.3-3.3 Fe2O3; and 8.0-15.0 bound H2O. (I) has a grain size of not more than 20 mm. (II) contains 40-60 (wt.%) CaCO3, 18-31 MgCO3, 1-6 Al2O3, and 15-20 chemically inert materials, all of which are found as Pb-, Cd-, and Ni-cpds. in natural soils. (II) is generally processed with waste prods. from lime and cement mfr., which contain 55-90% wt. pts. CaCO3, by fine crushing in a multi-stage process. During the process, Ca ions are incorporated into the lattice of the Mg-marl to form a finely ground insulating material. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is used for landfills, esp. artificially-formed landfills used for storing household and industrial waste, in which e.g. clay materials are used to seal mineral packing materials. (I) acts as an adsorbent for pollutants from seepage water of landfills. It can be applied in all weather conditions and in the open.
|
