The switch, which may be aligned to accommodate various sensing directions, comprises a sensor housing (1) with a sensing face (4) a head joint (2) with a connection support (11), which may be selectively fastened to the housing 1 in two different angular positions to direct the face either axially or laterally, and a base to be mounted at the point of installation, to which the head joint may be fixed in four, angular positions each 90 deg. apart. The sensor housing contains the entire electronic circuitry and the base takes the form of mounting block (3). A plug (17) is rotationally accommodated within the connection support equipped with four radial bores (12). The block carries a fastening screw (14) which selectively may be screwed in through one of the bores until it meets the plug so that the angular position of the heat joint may be fixed at stepped positions and the plug can be fixed at any desired angular position relative to the block.
