The diesel engine with an exhaust gas filter (4) in an exhaust pipe (3), has a bypass line (8) around the filter position contg. a measurement device with a control piston enclosed by a housing. The exhaust gas upstream and downstream of the filter act on the different ends of the piston which is moved against a spring according to the pressure difference. The piston displacement is used as a measurement signal by a control unit (18). An exhaust gas feedback line from the exhaust pipe to the induction system contains a feedback control valve controlled according to the piston position. The piston opens the bypass line at a defined difference pressure. ADVANTAGE - Enables exhaust feedback rate to be matched as accurately as possible to the engine operating conditions.
