Insert having selectively permeable membrane walls for dispensing small quantities of yeast or microorganisms into a liquid, esp. in a bottle, ion the prodn. of gaseous drinks by fermentation is constructed as follows. The insert comprises a hydrophilic, selectively permeable area for promoting liquid interchange between the contents of the insert and those of the bottle; the pressure inside the insert is equalized with that in the bottle through a gas outlet.In one embodiment (as shown), the gas outlet is an opening (18') above the liquid level in the bottle.The insert may be a floating object, loosely placed in the bottle and able to adopt various positions.
