FLAT OR MOULDED INDUSTRIAL PANEL, AND PROCESS FOR ITS MANUFACTURE

In a flat or moulded industrial panel of natural plant fibres (1) and binder (3), possibly covered on one or both sides with facing panels (4) of the same or different material, the natural tubular plant fibres of flattened cross-section are embedded in the binder (3) and aligned parallel to one another to form at least one layer (2), with the fibres (1) of two neighbouring layers (2) lying at an angle of at least 10 DEG to each other. In the process for manufacturing such industrial panels, the stems of the natural fibrous plant are stripped of roots and leaves, and if necessary treated and stored. From the whole stems produced in this way a wide layer section is formed by arranging the stems, sorted and cut to size, parallel to one and another in one or more rows, fastening them together by means of threads, then if need be regulating the moisture content of the section, possibly applying binder to the section, then if necessary dewatering and/or drying and/or precondensing. Following this a compressed pack is formed by laying up the individual wide layer sections according to the thickness of the end product in such a way that the fibre directions of the individual layers are at an angle to each another, then, as need be, attaching facing panels by means of added binder on one or both sides, then pressing the pack in a flat or a moulding press at a temperature of 15-200 DEG C and a pressure of 2-2500 N/cm<2> depending on the number of sections and on the binder. It is then cooled, conditioned, post-treated and/or fitted with facing panels and/or surface treated as necessary.
