Waste materials contg. PCB's are treated with conc. NaOH soln. under pressure and comparatively high temp. then the remaining PCB's and poly-hydroxy-biphenols are oxidised, with continuous oxygen addn., using the oxygen dissolved in the water to form intermediates, esp. aliphatic carbonic acids, ketones and similar cpds. - The equipment comprises A 1st reactor and 2nd reactor supplied from the PCB storage and NaOH dissolving tanks via a high pressure pump. The 2nd reactor discharges to the evaporator via the expansion tank. The vapour discharge of the evaporator is routed to the condenser, and then returned to the sodium hydroxide solution tank. The vapour/gas discharge of the expansion tank is piped to an activatd carbon absorber (10). At least one of the reactors, preferably the 2nd is connected to an air compressor
