Test equipment for liq. e.g. chemical or biological substances (e.g. blood) includes a test tube (10) of e.g. glass or plastic, esp. reagent glass, into which the liq. substance (26) is introduced. The equipment also includes a piston (112) of outside dia. less than the inside dia. of the test tube (10) so that, when the piston (112) is inserted into the test tube (10) contg. the substance, the liq. substance (26) rises along the piston wall. The piston (112) may be made of transparent material such as glass or plastics (e.g. acrylic glass). ADVANTAGE - A smaller amount of liq. substance is required without affecting optical testability and without the risk of substance drying or of damage to included particulates (e.g. red blood cells in blood serum) when the test tube is handled.
