<p>A method for fitting a weather strip (2) or other channel shaped strip member to the peripheral lip of a body or an opening, notably a vehicle door opening, comprises feeding a required length of the strip member to a device which applies radial pressure to the member to engage it with the lip, characterised in that a. the length of the strip member is greater, preferably 1 to 2% greater, than the periphery of the lip onto which it is to be fitted; b. the strip member is deployed into an open ended loop having the free ends (20) of the strip member indented, preferably radially inwardly, with respect to the adjacent portion of the loop; and c. the strip member in the loop is moved radially to engage with the lip of the opening and the free ends of the strip member are brought into alignment and axially abutting engagement with one another whereby the strip member is put under axial compression in at least that portion adjacent the abutting free ends thereof. <IMAGE></p> |
