An arrangement for monitoring the state of a vehicle tyre and measuring wheel rotation properties has an encoding element connected to the wheel hub. The monitoring device can alter the characteristics of the encoding element when the value of a parameter passes through a critical threshold. A fixed sensor (18) detects the encoding element and passes a signal to a computer contg. information about the rotation characteristics and tyre state. The encoding element is a multipole magnetic ring (12) with uniformly distributed segments of alternating different polarity. One segment is replaced by a microcoil (12a) producing an identical field and continuously carrying a d.c. whose direction changes when the threshold is crossed. USE/ADVANTAGE - Enables simple low-cost monitoring of tyre state, e.g. temp. and/or pressure and wheel rotation characteristics, e.g. speed and angular acceleration. |
