PURPOSE:To obtain the objective compound at a low cost without producing disturbing by-products by reacting 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane with hydrogen in vapor phase in the presence of a silica gel catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The subject substance is produced in high yield by mixing 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane with hydrogen at a molar ratio of 1:(0.5-4) and passing the mixture through a quartz reaction tube packed with silica gel and heated at 450-550 deg.C at a contact time of 1-10sec to effect the reaction of the components. There is no particular restriction on the particle diameter and shape of the silica gel provided that the gel has a surface area of 1-1,000m<2>/g, however, a spherical silica gel having a size of 5-60 mesh is preferable from practical point of view. The silica gel has a purity of preferably >=90%, however, it may contain slight or small amount of Al, Fe, Na, Ca, etc. |
