PURPOSE:To produce the austenitic steel having excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance by preparing the austenitic steel which consists of specific ratios of Fe and Ni, Cr and is specified in the structure and crystal state thereof. CONSTITUTION:An austenitic chromium/nickel type stainless steel contg., by weight %, 9 to 30% Ni and 10 to 23% Cr, and having >=45% Fe is melted and is solidified from one direction or is further subjected to a homogenization heat treatment to prepare the austenitic steel steel which contains the Cr and Ni having the full austenite structure in an equil. phase diagram at 700 deg.C and his an austenitic phase at room temp. and in which this austenitic phase is single crystal. The austenitic steel having the excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance is obtd. in this way. This steel is useful as the core member of a nuclear reactor. |
