A circuit is used for detecting the bit error rate in a digital transmission apparatus, and producing the alarm when the error is detected. The circuit comprises a timer (10) for producing the measuring period (T) of the bit error rate, a means for producing a second clock, a means for producing the reset signal, and a means for counting the number of the error data and for providing the alarm signal when the error number is larger than the reference number.
