PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal panel for black-and-white display of satisfactory contrast by combining two phase difference films different in wavelength dependency of retardation. CONSTITUTION:Polarizers 1, phase difference film 2 for compensation where two phase difference films A and B different in wavelength dependency of retardation are superposed while intersecting orthogonally with each the other, and a liquid crystal layer 4 held between glass substrates 3 are provided. They are so constituted that light passes through the polarizer 1, the phase difference film A, the phase difference film B, the liquid crystal layer 4, the phase difference film B, The phase difference film A, and the polarizer A in order. Since the phase difference films 2 for compensation are interposed between polarizers 1 and the liquid crystal layer 4, wavelength dispersion of light of liquid crystal is cancelled by phase difference films 2 for compensation to reduce the wavelength dispersion of light. Thus, the liquid crystal panel for black-and-white display is obtained which uses STN liquid crystal having a large capacity and an excellent display quality. |
