PURPOSE:To prevent the shift hunting at the time of slope climb running by shifting up an automatic transmission when the return with the present value or above of a throttle valve is detected at the stationary state of the actual vehicle speed after the automatic transmission is shifted down. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 8 drives an actuator 4 and controls the opening of a throttle valve 3 based on the deviation between the actual vehicle speed detected by a vehicle speed sensor 9 and the target vehicle speed set by a set switch 17 so that the actual vehicle speed and the target vehicle speed are converged. The control unit 8 shifts down an automatic transmission 5 connected to an engine 1 when the actual vehicle speed becomes lower than the target vehicle speed by the preset value or above. It judges the stationary state of the actual vehicle speed after the shift down. It shifts up the automatic transmission 5 when the return with the preset value or above of the throttle valve 3 is detected after the stationary state is judged.
