PURPOSE:To obtain ketones corresponding to two molecules of raw materials of carboxylic acids having alpha-hydrogen in at least one molecule by decarbonate condensation reaction in high yield with using an oxide containing chromium and zirconium as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Ketones useful as intermediates of organic synthesis are produced from two molecules of carboxylic acid compound or derivative of said compound by decarbonate condensation reaction in vapor-phase catalytic reaction. In the process, said reaction is accelerated by using a compound having at least one hydrogen atom on carbon of alpha-position to carboxylic group as at least one molecule in said raw materials and simultaneously suppressing separating out of carbonaceous material by using an oxide containing chromium and zirconium preferably in an atomic ratio of about Zr:Cr=1:0.005-0.10 as a catalyst to afford the aimed compound in high yield with a long catalyst life. Besides, carbonaceous material attached to the catalyst is able to be burned and removed to recover in a modest condition. |
