<p>Polytetrafluoroethylene powder having an average particle size of 1 to 30 mu m and a specific surface area of 2 to 6 m<2>/g is prepared by heating unsintered polytetrafluoroethylene powder having a melting point of 313 to 330 DEG C at a temperature in a range from a temperature 70 DEG C lower than the melting point to a temperature lower than the melting point and comminuting it.</p>
