A composition suitable for application to skin to provide thereon a film with electroconductive and astringent properties, comprises a mixture of a film-forming amount of a film-forming polymer, an electroconductive amount of an ionic astringent compound homogeneously dispersed throughout the mixture and a carrier therefor whereby on applicatin to the skin, a film is formed containing said compound substantially homogeneously dispersed throughout the film. The ionic astringent compound is preferably zinc phenolsulfonate.
