Emulsifying thermoplastic resin mixt. - by mixing melt of resin and minor amt. of PVA with water in extruder

The mixt. (I) is emulsified by introducing into feed funnel of a double screw extruder (I) obtd. by melting and mixing (A) 80-98% (all pts.wt.) thermoplastic resin (II) with (B) 2-20% polyvinyl alcohol (III) and introducing water through at least one port downstream with reference to melt zone of (I) so that the water is kneaded with molten (I). USE/ADVANTAGE - Prepn. of emulsions and, if required, of powders from these by, e.g., spray drying. Very stable dispersions of (II) are obtd. continuously, simply, and economically without use of special emulsifying or dispersing agents.
