An inlet filter for waste water sterilisers has a rotating horizontal filter plate through which the water passes from above. The retained material is removed from the perimeter of this filter plate. The inlet pipe (16) discharges into an overflow cup (18) above the centre of the filter plate (10). At least one spray nozzle (19) is located above the filter plate (10) between the overflow cup and the outer edge of the filter plate. This nozzle operates at a low pressure and provides a wide spray of fine water drops. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in medical or veterinary applications or in abattoirs, where solid material must be removed from waste water before sterilisation. The main disadvantage of existing device of this type, which suffer from filter blockages due to the presence of animal hairs, is overcome.
