Vehicle speed change measurement sensor - has slider with restraining spring and magnet, photodiode and photocell generating light pulses from translational motion

The sensor is mounted on the vehicle and has a slider (1) with an aperture positioned w.r.t. a stop in a housing by a spring (7) and a magnet (6). The restraining force applied to the slider by the magnet is reduced by an intermediate part (5). Light from a photodiode (2) passes through the aperture in the slider to a photocell (3). USE/ADVANTAGE - Generates light pulses via translational rather than rotational motion when impact causes relative motion between inertial wt. and vehicle. Number of parts is reduced compared to conventional arrangements.
