PURPOSE:To seal a hermetic case for moistureproofing so as to prevent aging deterioration of an electroluminescent element by surrounding a group of layers of organic compounds, etc., and disposing the group of layers of organic compounds inside the hermetic case, and retaining diphosphate pentoxides in a retaining container disposed separate from the group of layers of organic compounds inside the hermetic case. CONSTITUTION:A hermetic case 20 is hermetically stuck onto a glass transparent base 1 in such a manner as surrounding a positive pore transport layer 10 and an organic electroluminescent layer 14 stacked one upon another and both electrodes. The hermetic case 20 blocks a group of layers of organic compounds, etc., from fresh air. In the hermetic case 20 a gas-permeable, acid- resistant retaining container 21 disposed separate from the group of layers of organic compounds and a cathode on the inner wall surface of the case 20 opposite to the group of layers of organic compounds is provided. A group of diphosphate pentoxide particles are retained in the retaining container 21. The gas-permeable retaining container retaining the group of diphosphoric pentoxide particles serves as means for drying the group of layers of organic compounds. |
