A magnetic recording medium having excellent properties is disclosed. The recording medium comprises a non-magnetic support and provided thereon at least two magnetic layers, wherein the lower magnetic layer of the at least two layers has a Young's modulus which is larger than that of the upper magnetic layer and is not less than 800 kg/mm2.
