PURPOSE:To increase the tensile strength and hardness of an electrode wire so that machining may be carried out with the electrode wire being subjected to high tension, and as well to reduce torsion, vibration, etc. thereof so that machining may be made stable and as well the accuracy of machining may be enhanced, by covering the outer surface of a core wire with a thin electro-conductive metal. CONSTITUTION:An adhered copper coating layer 2 containing therein 2% samarium is formed on the outer periphery of an iron wire (1% carbon JIS-SWRM1), and an adhered copper layer 3 made of copper alloy (Cu-Zn, Cu-Sn, Cu-Al, Cu- Sn-Zn, Cu-Sn-P, Cu-Al-Si, etc.) containing therein samarium, is formed on the outer periphery of the above-mentioned layer 2. With the contained rare earth group materials the adhesion of the joint section between the core wire 1 and the coating layer 2 is increased, and rare earth group materials or rare earth group oxide materials are diffused in the coating layer 2 so that the layer 2 is increased. Further, the adhesive force between the layers 2, 3 and as well the strength of the layer 3 may be increased so that the electrode wire as a whole may have high tensile strength and high hardness. |
