PURPOSE:To improve the detection precision of a road surface mu by judging the road surface mu in reference to the standard data showing the magnitude of the road surface frictional coefficient mu stored in a memory means on the basis of a dynamic physical quantity generated in accordance with vehicle speed, handle steering angle, and turning. CONSTITUTION:A yaw rate sensor 42 for inputting the output signals of a vehicle speed sensor 22 and a front wheel steering angle sensor 23 and detecting a yaw rater which is the dynamic physical quantity of a vehicle body generated in accordance with the turn of the vehicle is provided. On the basis of the multiplication result in a multiplior 43 for multiplying a vehicle speed V and a front wheel steering angle deltaf, and the yaw rate r, the road surface mu determined according to each value V, deltaf, r is judged in reference to the standard data showing the magnitude of the road surface mu by a comparative circuit 44.
