PURPOSE:To reduce damage given to a panel at the time of aging discharge, and furthermore enable desired discharge gas to be sealed in, by replacing aging gas so that discharge gas is sealed in after aging discharge has been induced by the use of aging gas which is lower in discharge voltage than discharge gas. CONSTITUTION:Ne-Ar gas as gas which is lower in discharge voltage than discharge gas, is introduced into a discharge space. In the second place, aging voltage is applied to all of the X and Y electrodes of a gas discharge panel, under which condition, discharging the gas discharge panel 31 is kept on for the specified period of time. After aging discharge has been induced, gas within the discharge space of the gas discharge panel is exhausted again by means of an exhaust device 51, and He-Xe gas as discharge gas is introduced into the discharge space with the closing valve of a discharge gas supply source 61 opened. This thereby reduce damage to the panel at the time of aging discharge, furthermore making it possible to seal desired discharge gas in. |
