Retractable roadway devices for making guided routes compatible are necessary when bimodal vehicles have to travel along a route common to two different modes of transport, such as a railway and a monorail. This makes it necessary to provide a form of continuity for the new route on the existing route at points where routes in the two transport systems intersect, so that vehicles of both modes can run on each. This patent lays down a method of achieving the necessary discontinuity without prejudice to the passage of corresponding different vehicles by means of a device which causes the appropriate sections of track to tilt about a buried axis by means of electric motors in order that they should remain hidden and remain to one side during passage. <IMAGE>
