The umbrella-type awning is extensible over a wide area, having a vertical support (1), on which are arms (2) one above the other and slewing on a vertical axis. These support an awning cloth, extended or folded by the slewing movement. Each arm has a top tie rope (6) holding it horizontal, and attached to the vertical support. Some at least of the arms also have bottom tie ropes (7), sloping downwards to a supporting member (22) at the slewing aixs, so as to resist wind pressure in the upwards direction. ADVANTAGE - Maximum protection against wind damage.
