Hydrocarbons, especially chlorinated hydrocarbons, are removed from effluents or ground water by using activated carbon which is mixed proportionately with an ion exchanger resin which is composed half- and-half of a strongly acidic cation exchanger resin and a strongly basic anion exchanger resin, and, after a residence time, the activated carbon/ion exchanger resin mixture is treated in the effluent with a separating agent, which contains an electrolyte, a flocculant, a sorbent and a pH-regulating substance, and the sediment formed in the effluent is separated from the latter, dehydrated and dumped. |
