An insert for such a pre-furnace which is used for firing with comminuted fuels such as wood chipping, sawdust, straw, peat or similar, whereby the object of the insert is to supply primary air to the fuel in a controlled manner, whereby the combustion process is improved and the risk of so-called backfire is eliminated. According to the invention, the insert is characterized by a fixed supporting surface 8 for the fuel, arranged adjacent to the fuel inlet 3 of the pre-furnace and having an upper, sloping portion 9 and a lower, horizontal portion 10. These two portions each have an injection means 13, 15 and 14, 16, respectively, for directed air injection into the fuel. Apart from the injection means, the supporting surface is arranged to separate the fuel from an air intake 5 to the injection means in a tightening way.
