PURPOSE:To safely, easily and surely perform sealing of a battery, by coating soft metal to the metal junction surface of a sealed part in a battery jar cover to its extended terminal and sealing while press contacting said sealed part. CONSTITUTION:A reinforcing ring 2 of a battery jar cover 1 and the flange part 4 of an electrode pole 3 of terminal extending through said cover 1 are sealed and jointed. Here to this junction surface a soft metal coating part 5, selectively containing alloy from tin, lead, cadminum, indium, silver, thallium, bismuth and zinc, is previously provided, and sealing is performed by plastic deforming while press contacting said coating part 5 at the time of junction. Further this method of sealing can be applied not only to the junction part of the battery jar cover 1 and the terminal 3 but also to the metal junction surface of a battery jar, housing a generating element of positive pole or the like, and the battery jar cover. |
