One or more phenols having a side chain with seven or more carbon atoms is or are added to alkaline textile treating baths containing phenols soluble in concentrated alkali lyes. The shrinkage numbers (Landolts) of threads when immersed in lyes containing (a) cresol, (b) cresol and carvacrol and (c) cresol and octylphenol are tabulated. Other known assistants such as fatty sulphonates and solvents may also be added to the lyes. Specification 379,018 is referred to. |
