A frequency converter (3) is connected upstream of the electric motor (2) for speed control. The frequency converter (3) consists of a power section (6) and the normal electronics. While these normal electronics are constructed as a structural unit with the electric motor (2), the power section (6) is arranged as a module (7), in the form of a structural unit (2) separated from the motor. The module (7) may be arranged independently of the motor and is electrically connected to the motor structural unit (2) via a connecting cable (8).
