The piston has the gudgeon pin supported in bushes (1) which are a press fit in internal bosses (2). Each bush has an external chamfer (4) on its inner end. Each bush is inserted from outside the piston and is pressed in the radially inwards direction into its boss. The bushes are positioned axially by a stop which is inserted between the inner faces of the bosses. This stop ensures that the chamfer of each bush is positioned beyond the inner face of the corresponding boss so that the maximum possible length of the press fit between bush and boss is achieved without the end of the bush fouling the connecting rod (3).
